This art piece is an exact scaled down version of the Solar System that fits into the playa. This fully-solar powered art installation was brought to the playa in 2022. The Sun is located at Camp Cosmica (4:30 and Inception) and has a diameter of about 73 inches. The rest of the planets are on a straight line connecting 4:30 to the Man. Mounted on illuminated poles, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars can be found on the 4:30 avenue within the city. Jupiter (about 7.5 inches), Saturn (6 inches) and Uranus (2.5 inches) are out in the playa. At this scale scale, slow walking speed is approximately equal to the speed of light. So you can experience what it feels like to be a photon emanating from the Sun and propagating through our solar system.
